Many of you know the incredible TotalBiscuit aka John Bain.  Many of you also know that he's been publicly fighting cancer for the last 4 years and recently passed from that fight.

John has had an incredible game's media career that spans at least 13 years.  During that time he's covered countless games including World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 and it would be pretty hard to make a full list of games he's supported.  He was a journalist, entertainer, critic, philanthropist, and general good dude.  And he was one of the best.

In this career there are no medical plans, no retirement funds, and no golden parachutes.  The financial resources available are limited to the support of viewers and advertisers.  John's family Genna & Orion are faced with short and long term challenges around housing, living expenses, income security, medical care, and the special needs of Orion (their son).

Please join me in supporting Genna and Orion in this very trying time to help take one burden off their shoulders.

Note: I have personally talked to Genna.  She knows and is very appreciative of anyone showing their support.  Genna is the only person who can withdrawl from this gofundme.

Note to streamers: If you're looking to support the family, you can use this campaign if you want to raise money and have it go directly to them.

I wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to the John Bain memorial. I've been watching the donations come in, making sure someone is reading the notes and thinking of John.

Many of you have said that John helped you through a rough time. In my time working with creators, I've seen the feedback "You helped me through a rough time" a lot. Its a statement that is hard to appreciate because its vague but clearly meaningful. I wanted to share one person's memorial post to John who I think perfectly summarized what it means that John was there for us during rough times. Its not that he personally talked to us about something, its that he lived the right way and demonstrated it to us because of who he was. Its that way of living that he embraced so wholeheartedly that got us through the rough patch and once we got ourselves onto the right path he showed us how to do more by always giving to others:

"I owe a lot of things to TB. He helped me get through a tough period of my life in high school back in 2013 that was so mentally stressful at the time and I have stuck through his content ever since. I've also come to know his personality so well through his content that I'd consider him a friend, even though the feeling was not mutual (Ironically, he personally stressed that his viewers should not perceive him as a friend). I never had the opportunity to meet him in person and alas, that moment has passed and will never come back. I will sorely miss his presence in the Co-optional podcasts, his random videos about current issues in the gaming industry and most of all, his "WTF is..." series. I valued his opinion highly in gaming critique, knowing fully well that his opinionated biases would be followed on by an assortment of testimonies and relentless reasoning to back them up. Yet, every video would also unfailingly contain the opposite spectrum in which he presents the potential demographic the game appeals to. He also taught my younger self through his commentary how to think critically about things, this in which I apply beyond gaming as well. In short, my condolences to Genna and Orion, his family and relatives, and all his friends stretching far and wide across the globe for the loss we have experienced in his passing was more than just for a man. TB was the embodiment of gaming critique at the highest level who raised the bar beyond any a mere man could accomplish. He was a monolithic giant that upheld a righteous heart for his passion and sought to be the pedestal for those with meeker voices, so that they may be heard in this ensemble filled with gigantic corporations. TB, the Atlas of the gaming community, who lifted us beyond the clouds so that we may glimpse the rising of a new dawn, a new age of gaming standards that would not have been possible without his support. Up there, may you look down at your legacy and smile cynically at your work, whilst donning an angelic top hat and turning up that FOV slider ad infinitum." -Tim
