We meet back in 2014 and we both knew that we wanted to start a family but 2 years later and no luck we went for extensive tests.Nothing conclusive showed, the drs advised we should consider IVF.We decided not to straight away as we were saving for our wedding. One of the happiest days of our lives was April ‘17 when we got married. We didn’t have the normal big honeymoon instead we planned our first round of IVF we were so excited with the possibility of finally been pregnant.
June ’17 our IVF resulted in our 1st pregnancy and we couldn’t have been happier,it was everything we had wanted Baby was due in April ‘18.The pregnancy progressed without too many problems until mid-December when I had a bleed,we thought “okay these things happen let’s not stress”.A few days later I had another bleed and this time I was diagnosed with Placenta Previa and would be closely monitored for the remainder of my pregnancy. On the evening of December 28th I went into spontaneous labour and rushed to Dublin where our little girl Saoirse was born by emergency section in the early hours of 29th at 26 weeks 3 days weighing 800g.19 precious days later was one of the most heart-breaking days of our lives our baby girl sadly passed away. One of the hardest things we have had to do was take our baby home in a little white coffin and prepare her funeral (something that will never leave us for the rest of our lives).
We slowly picked ourselves up after the devastating loss of our little girl with the hope we can try again,we will have our family! After Saoirse we had 4 more rounds of IVF but unfortunately all rounds failed.Heartbreak after heartbreak how much more could we take.
In April ‘19 we had a Frozen embryo transfer with our last 2 embryos.Every day for our 2 week wait I prayed that we would be lucky enough to fall pregnant again, our test returned a big fat positive we were pregnant and couldn’t be happier. This was our second chance surely nothing could go wrong, we were so happy but understandably nervous.Baby was due in January ‘20 life was great again.Mid May I had a bleed and due to what happened with Saoirse we went to the hospital and I was kept for initially 2 weeks so they could run tests to see how our pregnancy was progressing. After 2 weeks because we were so early in our pregnancy I was allowed out we required weekly scans and soon I was diagnosed with Placenta Accreta (a serious pregnancy condition that occurs when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall. With placenta accreta, part or all of the placenta remains attached. This can cause severe blood loss after delivery).Once I didn’t have another bleed I would be allowed remain at home with family but unfortunately in June I was back in hospital and this time the drs advised it was safer for both baby & I to stay until the birth.I was willing to do anything to keep baby safe so settled in for the long term. The drs explained the complications to having Placenta Accreta and the main one was that the majority of women required a hysterectomy after birth, this was a huge shock to us but our thoughts were once our baby was safe then we would be a happy family together.
My caesarean hysterectomy was planned for late October but I went into spontaneous labour on 30th September and that evening our little boy Fionn was born at 25 weeks 1 day weighing 820g.My surgery lasted 5 hours and for the first 2 days I was in HDU so unable to see my boy.It felt like we were reliving the nightmare our little boy was small and in NICU but we remained as positive as possible.1 month later our nightmare became a reality when sadly our little prince passed away.No parent ever dreams of having to bury one child but here we were planning the funeral for our second baby.
Due to me having a hysterectomy after Fionn I am no longer in a position to carry our children so our last and only hope to have a child is through gestational surrogacy.I don’t have any sisters so we have decided to travel to the Ukraine in order to pursue our dream of having living children. We are asking for any help you can kindly give us because as you can imagine after so many rounds of IVF and 2 funerals our savings are starting from scratch.
All our love and appreciation Michelle, Seamus & our 2 wee guardian angels Saoirse & Fionn
