It has been a while since this page has been updated but today, I am writing to you all out of desperation for Nathaniel.
As you may be aware, Nathaniel was initially diagnosed with Myeloid Sarcoma of the left eye which was confirmed by biopsy in Nigeria. Nathaniel immediately underwent chemotherapy treatment to tackle the disease. Treatment helped but unfortunately, the tumour in his left eye began to grow again. He was then referred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital where a bone marrow aspiration was performed. Nathaniel again, underwent chemotherapy treatment. Throughout this whole ordeal which took place over the span of 3 years, Nathaniel - who is only 8 years old - fought with such bravery and strength.
Unfortunately, with a heavy heart I write that Nathaniel had his left eye removed in Nigeria on 3rd September 2020 as the tumour was relentless and removal was the only option. What an incredibly difficult thing for anyone to endure, let alone a child. Nathaniel has never stopped fighting. Through tests, procedures, numerous chemotherapy treatments, surgeries and ultimately losing his eye – his bravery has been undeniable.
Fast forward to today – Nathaniel is currently in London. On an unrelated trip to see a specialist to fit a prosthetic eye, Nathaniel fell ill and is now in Croydon University Hospital being treated by the oncology consultants. However, Nathaniel does not currently qualify for NHS funded care so I come before you all today and ask anyone, please, to help in any way you can. We are raising funds so that Nathaniel can be admitted to Specialist hospital in London to have a lifesaving Stem Cell Transplant. If we do not manage to raise the funds, we have been told that hospice care is the next step which is something we do not agree with.
It has been a long, hard journey but we will never stop fighting for Nathaniel. He deserves a life free of cancer. He is a bright, wonderful child that has so many gifts to give back to the world. In a perfect world, money would not be more important than the beating heart of a child, but this is unfortunately the reality we face.
I would like to thank every single person who has kindly donated to Nathaniel’s fund – there will never be enough words to truly show how grateful we are for this. If you are able to donate, share or pray for Nathaniel – we will be forever thankful.
