Imagine being one of Michigan’s premier musicians while never being able to listen to, learn from and share music on your own. Our local journeyman drummer and percussionist, Bryn Jungwirth, has precisely this problem. Bryn is blind and his current computer is so outdated that he can’t even interact with music, his fellow musicians and his many friends.
His current computer can only give him a limited braille version of the internet and computing. In other words, text only. No apps, no songs, no YouTube for learning and exploring. Hard to believe, right?! Most of us now take this for granted.
Bryn, a local icon and one of Marquette's most in-demand musicians, is currently playing in 5 local bands bedazzling audiences on drums, percussion, vocals and melodica. When we asked Bryn if we could help him do this he responded, “Are you kidding me? This would have a huge impact on my professional career cuz I would have music." So let’s give our musician his music.
Along with his music, he’ll have access to the tools and resources he needs to run his music career. He can also collaborate on projects using file and video sharing or live streams via high-speed internet.
Bryn's largest source of income comes from playing music, so being able to share and rehearse to music digitally like all of his bandmates is a must. When collaborating with his Ignorant Mob band members, who are spread all over Michigan, he needs to be able to access the songs they are creating and even record parts remotely. Or when Bryn is practicing for his Daydreamers gigs, he’d simply like to be able to search for a song online so he can learn it.
You’ve probably seen Bryn playing in a variety of bands over the past decade including Ignorant Mob, Daydreamers, LogJam, Everything Under the Sun, WhoDat Brass, Tunepatch all of Marquette, MI. Previously he played in Tomas y los Ninos Perdidos (Marquette, MI), Jah Kings (Springfield, MO/ Crestone, CO) and a stint with Cry on Cue (Los Angeles, CA). When Bryn was asked to list all of the people he has played music with, he replied, "I've played a lot of one-off gigs and sat in with various different people/bands over the years but I don't think I could list all of them just because of how many there are..."
Bryn has played countless benefit shows, weddings, farmers markets and music festivals. He is playing multiple gigs a week around Marquette in bars, restaurants, breweries and cafés. Some of the venues he has played include the Ore Dock Brewing Company, Flanigan's, Blackrocks Brewery, and a variety of bars. He is a regular musician at several Michigan music festivals including Blissfest Music Festival, Earthwork Harvest Gathering, Forestville Music Festival and Farm Block Music Festival. This summer you can find him gigging multiple times per week around Marquette. He will also be playing with Ignorant Mob at the Ore Dock Brewing Company on July 12th, Forestville Music Festival on July 13th and Farmblock Music Festival on July 27th.
The computer we are seeking is called a BrailleNote Touch 18 Plus. This device is quite expensive ($4200) and we'd like to be able to get him a few accessories with the goal to raise $5000.
If we can raise additional funds for Bryn, he would also be able to upgrade his music production equipment to digital and be able to share his beautiful, musical, grooving soul with the world. And if you know him, you know how cool that will be. help us make this happen! Thank you, in advance, for anything you can give, and for helping us reach our goal! Leave a note with your donation telling us how Bryn's music and personality have touched your life.
