Haematology Oncology Unit in St James Hospital
I have Non Hodgkins lymphoma which was first diagnosed in February 2018. I was treated initially in the day ward in St James hospital in Dublin. The care and attention I received there was fantastic.
I had a relapse in 2020 when I had a seizure due to a lesion in my brain which was initially treated with a chemotherapy drug. This drug didn't work and when I had a second seizure in June my consultant immediately admitted me to Denis Burkitts ward in James hospital for chemotherapy.
From June to November I spent approximately 17 weeks in total in hospital with short breaks at home in between treatments. The treatment put my cancer in to remission, which meant that I could have
an autologous stem cell transplant which means that I will hopefully remain cancer free for a long time.
I want to raise as much as I can to enable the Haematology Team in St James hospital to continue research to improve treatment for patients with different types of blood cancers.
I cannot thank the doctors, nurses, carers and ancillary staff enough for the fantastic care I got while I was a patient in Denis Burkitts ward. They were all so professional and caring. They deserve our help.
I was never sick before I was diagnosed with cancer and it was a huge shock when my consultant gave me the news. However I was determined to get better and always remained positive that the outcome would be good.
Any money I raise will enable this team of consultants to continue their research in finding a cure for these types of cancer.
You never know when you or someone you know or love will need their help.
