We have set this Fundraiser up on behalf of the Scullion Family for our Betty Boop....Betty Scullion.
Only a few weeks ago Betty suffered a seizure at home, for reasons unknown at the time. Betty was taken to Limerick University Hospital where she underwent a number of investigative and extensive tests. Unfortunately the news received was not the news her and family expected.
Betty was diagnosed with Brain Cancer having found lesions on her brain which caused her to seizure that day. Unfortunatly due to position of the brain leisons Betty cannot be left unattended at any one time as the leisons can cause her to seizures and due due to the position of these leisons they are inoperable.
But that was not all, Betty was also diagnosed with Lung Cancer.
Betty started an invasive course of chemotherapy the week before Christmas and has been in and out of hospital since. Although her Cancer is terminal, her family are seeking alternative options and treatments but unfortunately this all comes at high cost.
Betty along with her supportive Husband Mark, and her loving children Mark Jnr, Melissa, Rachel and Shannon are all staying very positive, strong and hopeful for each day they get with her.
Those who know Betty and the family are fully aware that Betty is not only a mother and wife but she is a full time carer to her 21 year daughter Shannon who has Downs Syndrome.
Due to Bettys condition the circumstances in the family home have changed quite a bit. Bettys Husband Mark and her eldest daughter Melissa currently reside in the family home along with Shannon the youngest daughter and Alfie Melissa's son. Both Mark and Melissa have had to take an indefineit leave of absence from work to care for Betty and also to become Shannons full time carer. Due to this their family finances have changed dramatically. Other siblings have also had to take leave from work to help care for Betty.
We have taken careful consideration and we are fully aware of what we are asking of people. Setting this page up was a very hard thing for the family to do, they were not particularly happy about opening up their personal business to the world but unfortunately pride is not a luxury they have right now. We are fully aware that Bettys Cancer is aggressive and our time may be limited with her, but we are staying hopeful.
All funds raised will go towards helping Betty continue her fight, support Bettys treatments and explore all options available to her and take the huge financial cost off them as a family.
Betty is a strong, powerful and determined woman. Help her win this fight!!!!
