Ciarra is a 29 year-old new mama to her sweet 10 month-old son, Summit. She and her husband, Marlin,  own and operate their own blind business, "Durango Shade Company" in Durango, Colorado. Born and raised in Carbondale, Colorado, Ciarra met Marlin while attending Fort Lewis College.

On Thursday, September 19th Ciarra underwent blood tests after feeling excruciating pain throughout her body. The doctors quickly knew something was very wrong due to her blood counts and she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a very rare form of leukemia (cancer of the blood), usually found in older adults and can spread quickly.

Immediately flown to St. Luke's hospital in Denver for treatment, Ciarra began chemotherapy on September 24th and will be kept in isolation away from her baby boy while undergoing chemotherapy for at least the next month.

Ciarra will then battle through a second round of chemotherapy prior to receiving a bone marrow transplant.   At this point she will need to remain in the Denver area for 100 days in order to ensure her body accepts the new bone marrow. During much of the year-long fight for her life, Ciarra and her family will be separated from each other due to her fragile immune system.

Our hope is to relieve some of the extraordinary financial stress that will arise in fighting her leukemia.   While Ciarra is undergoing treatment  her husband will be raising their son and will be unable to run their business. The family will have costs for raising a growing baby, insurance co-pays and living expenses.  Any amount of money we raise will help make this time easier for this young family.

Quick update for you all-
Ciarra is feeling really well after her last round of consolidation chemo. Her numbers are climbing back up by the day. Also, she has an official bone marrow transplant date of 1/29. Please continue to keep that date in mind with positive thoughts/prayers/good juju.
Another great piece of news is that she will be home with her family for the holidays! Thank you all for your continued support and love for this incredible woman!

Ciarra underwent an unforeseen surgery today. Due to an extended period of colitis, a section of her large intestine had to be removed. Unfortunately, this sets back her chemo which may affect when her bone marrow transplant takes place. Starting the "big guns" chemo will be delayed until her body heals from surgery and can undergo such intense chemo. With her 30th birthday and Christmas around the corner, we're hoping she can catch a break, and kick this thing once and for all!

Ciarra isn't out of the woods just yet!

As of last week, Ciarra is in remission! However, she will need TWO more rounds of chemo before her bone marrow transplant in January. She will return to the hospital next week for 3 days of chemo as a consolidation round to decrease the risk of the cancer returning. The next (and hopefully final) round will be "the big guns" version of chemo to wipe EVERYTHING out so she can receive the transplant.
Ciarra is turning 30 years old on December 15th! Even though she may be in the hospital during her birthday, we’re hoping we can help her feel celebrated, no matter what. Feel free to send a birthday card to:

14100 Aspen St.
Broomfield, CO 80020

Every “share” of this page is extremely appreciated. The cost of her treatment continues to add and we are aiming to alleviate as much financial stress as possible. Thank you for your continued donations, support, prayers and well wishes!

Yesterday was a wonderful day! After fighting hard through two rounds of chemo, Ciarra’s bone biopsy revealed she is CANCER FREE! Earlier this week she got to take a break from the hospital as her numbers were finally stable. The day she left the hospital her son, Summit took his FIRST steps! On top of all this incredible news, she will be able to spend Summits first birthday with him and her family. While her journey to complete recovery isn’t over, we couldn’t be more elated about yesterday’s results!
