Help Dave Get Home, To See His Wife Jen Safely.

My Step Dad Dave had a stroke on the 28th of February 2021. He was taken to CUH and put into an induced coma as he had a bleed in his brain. He has been making steady progress since and has been moved back down to Bantry Hospital here in West Cork. He is currently in the rehabilitation ward there and has been making progress. Due to the lockdown and the travel restrictions here in Ireland it has been near impossible for anyone from his family to visit him.

This has been exceptionally difficult on my mother as before the stroke happened they were locked at the hips. Its hard seeing the pain she is going through each hour, without being able to show affection or love to him via touching him or hugging. It has been hard for me and my brothers as well as we cannot see him too.

It has turned life upside down and the reason for this plea for funds, is so that when Dave is allowed to return to his home with my mother that it will be suitable for him to return to.

What I am asking for is donations to help my mother get the house ready for his return. What I am hoping to do with the funds is to help my mother:

* Bring the driveway right down to the front of the house (since they live in the countryside the driveway is a bit far away from the front door) This will be done by removing the shed and putting down concrete. This is will make moving Dave in case he is bound to a wheelchair.

* Making the necessary improvements inside the house to make it easier for Dave to live, I.e: hand railings, the bathroom accessible, kitchen safe, installing a hoist for the bed if needed. In general making improvements that may be needed for when he returns.

* Takes the financial strain off of my mothers shoulders, by giving her funds to travel from their home to the hospital to see Dave when she is allowed to. I.e: fuel, money for shopping, clothes for Dave.

*Gives my mother a chance to get the odd jobs around the house sorted before Dave returns home. I.e: fixing the car, making sure its accessible for Dave if he needs wheelchair access. the bedroom to make sure its suitable and safe.

*Any left over funds will be used accordingly to do further improvements to the house/garden that are not present at this moment in time.

These funds are needed before the end of May 2021 as there is a better chance that Dave will be allowed to return home by then. This also gives my mother a chance to get them all sorted out and put in place before he returns.

This support means the world to me, the last month has been a test to my own strength, especially since we are in restrictions and cannot seen Dave in person due to the COVID-19 threat as hes a vulnerable person. It also means that my mother will be able to focus her energy and attention on getting the house ready for Dave to return to which in turn will take a lot of stress and pressure off of her shoulders and allow her to breath.

It means that there will be a higher chance that the hospital will allow him to return home sooner as he will be in a safe place that will allow him to rest & heal from his stroke. This would mean the world to my mother as she has already been without her rock Dave for nearly a month now. I feel that this money would change not only her outlook on life at the moment but will also show her that she doesn't have to struggle through this alone. That there are people all over the world who can share the burden and help her get the house ready for Dave's return.

I would truly be grateful if you could donate anything to this fund as it will seriously impact how the next few months go with Dave's recovery and setting up the house for his return.  Not only will it be taking a huge financial burden off of my mothers shoulders but it will also give her the room to heal too as she will have more time to focus on helping Dave and by getting the house in order for him.

I honestly appreciate all the donations and I hope one day in the future I can repay the favour.
