On the 11th of November Patrick received a positive Covid19 test. We thought he would be fine, given he is not in any high risk category or had any underlying health conditions. The pictures show what happened in the space of a month.
Within a week he was admitted to hospital, his breathing deteriorated rapidly. He was then placed on a ventilator, but his oxygen levels declined further. He is now on an ECMO machine/life support, in hospital, in New York, so far away from us. At the moment, the machines are breathing for him, to hopefully give his lungs and body time to rest and build up enough strength to recover.
As a family, we are heartbroken and devastated to see our beloved, brother, husband, father, son, uncle, friend, in this life threatening situation. The distance, travel restrictions and covid risk makes it even more difficult for us to support him, his wife and daughter.
The recovery process will be a long road, and the medical expenses in the US are astronomical, $15.000 - $20,000 per day. The doctors are talking of months in hospital and a long recovery. Their medical insurance will only cover 50% of these costs.
We are trying to raise what funds we can towards these mounting medical expenses and, at least, help Patrick and his wife with some of the financial stress. We do not yet know the longer term physical or mental impact. We can only hope and pray for his recovery.
Any donations would be so gratefully appreciated, whether family, friend, colleague or just a kind and generous heart. Please help Patrick
