All about us… Phibsboro Cat Rescue (PCR) is a NO KILL cat rescue (registered charity no 20105297), based in Dublin’s north inner city. Our mission is to help lost, abandoned, and feral cats and kittens in Dublin (and further afield) through our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), rescue, fostering and rehoming programmes, in conjunction with our educational and advocacy work. Since we started our work in August 2014, we have TNR’d and rehomed over 3,500 cats and kittens. With your help we can help so many more!
Our plans… We have outgrown our little Hub in Phibsboro and we have secured larger premises in Smithfields, right in the heart of Dublin. Our new facility, The Inner Purr, will provide us with the opportunity to really expand the work we do and to become even more involved in the community we serve.
Our new centre means we will be able to have a much-needed quarantine area for rescued cats and kittens, a play area where visitors can interact with our friendlier kitties, a small vegan coffee shop and gift shop, as well as a meetings space for hosting workshops and education and welfare awareness training.
We truly believe the tide is finally turning in Ireland as more and more people start to realise the wonderful benefits domestic and community cats provide. We want to give people the tools to help cats in need and to ease tensions between cats and humans in our urban centres.
But we need your help… The Inner Purr offers us a real opportunity to showcase our work and will provide a vital stepping stone towards securing our permanent rescue home.
Our new premises is currently in a state of disrepair. €15,000 will enable us to build a series of internal pods and a further €5,000 will enable us to kit out each pod and install a disabled access lavatory. We believe pods are the most cost-effective way to utilise our new space as they will keep our heating and cooling costs to a minimum, can be resold, and can easily be dismantled and reassembled if we move. Most of the tradesmen involved are very kindly working simply for the love of cats.
We have come a long way since we first started in August 2014 and we have built up a great reputation and an established network of volunteers. We feel we have firm foundations in place on which to build this next stepping stone towards our permanent home.
The Inner Purr will provide the much needed space to…
* Store and distribute equipment and kitten milk, cat and kitten food, and litter to our fosterers
* Store and distribute donated items to more carers of cats in need
* Provide a cleaning area for traps, trapping equipment and cat bedding
* Create a quarantine pod for cats we are TNRing, emergency rescues, pregnant and/or nursing feral mamas and their kittens, and sick kitties
* Create a kitty play zone where visitors can interact with our friendlier rescued kitties, under the supervision of our trained volunteers
* Create a coffee station (with potential to grow into a vegan coffee shop)
* Create a suitable space for meetings and workshops
* Expand our gift shop to include a physical as well as online presence
* Establish a series of wormeries to compost all organic waste (this includes used cat litter!) into worm tea (often called “black gold”) to help educate young visitors on the importance of recycling and reduction of waste sent to landfills
* Home our eco cargo bike.
In addition, we can expand the number of volunteers involved as there will be more varied roles available and a greater range of tasks to be undertaken, and by providing a welcoming space in which people can volunteer outside of their homes. The Inner Purr will also enable us to host kitty adoption days and low-cost microchipping events, and to provide advice on all non-medical aspects of cat welfare through educational workshops and outreach projects.
Here's the plan… We have negotiated a reduced annual rent for the first year (which begins on 1st July 2020), which we are confident we can cover. Whilst our goal is to make The Inner Purr self financing, we’re not quite there yet. At the moment, the donations we receive from kind supporters only cover the costs of our TNR, rescue, fostering, and veterinary care needs. This is why we need your support to build our pods!
Once we know we have the funds we need, we can fully focus on the next step: opening!
The first phase of the work will focus on building and kitting out our pods. We plan to have this work finished by mid-August.
In the second phase, we will invite volunteers to help us with painting and general decoration to make the whole space vibrant and welcoming for all visitors and kitty residents. Our Wall of Love will be painted within the kitty play area.
Our plan is to open on 1st September 2020.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. But we also have a few goodies for those who donate at the following levels:
€5 A little means a lot! One of our current foster cats or kittens will send you a personal thank you via email (photos guaranteed!)
€20 What’s in a name? Coming up with great names for our foster kitties is a challenge and we would love for you to help us with this difficult task! We will send you a 5 card (blank inside for your own message) and envelope set featuring a professional photograph of the cat or kitten you have named.
€50 Kitty play dates! You will receive a pass to The Inner Purr offering you 10 1-hour play sessions with our rescued kitties.
€100 Do you pass? You will receive a pass offering you and a friend a 1-hour play session per week with our rescued kitties for 3 months (from the date you activate your pass).
€250 Feel the love! Your name will be painted on our Wall of Love. The Wall of Love will be a hand-painted mural in the kitty play area, dedicated to all generous supporters who are making this dream a reality. You will also receive a pass offering you and a friend a 1-hour play session per week with our rescued kitties for 3 months (from the date you activate your pass).
€500 Cats’ Cradles! (10 available) We need 10 safe cages for injured cats, nursing mamas and their kittens, quarantined kitties, or moggies we’re holding overnight as part of our TNR programmes. If you donate at this level, we’ll name a “cradle” in your honour with a plaque on the cradle with your details. Your name will also be painted on our Wall of Love and you will receive a pass offering you and a friend a 1-hour play session per week with our rescued kitties for 3 months (from the date you activate your pass).
€1,000 Rooms need names too! (4 available) You can name one of our pods! Perhaps you could name them in honour of a cat of your choosing? Or a cat lover who is dear to you? Your chosen name will be painted above the entrance to the pod and you will receive a high quality photograph of the finished pod to treasure, as well as your name being painted on our Wall of Love. You will also receive a pass offering you and a friend a 1-hour play session per week with our rescued kitties for 3 months (from the date you activate your pass).
€2,500 On your bike! (1 available) We want to do our bit to help our planet whilst helping rescue cats in need. An eco cargo bike would enable us to expand our rescue work by giving independence to trappers/ rescuers who choose not to drive. An eco cargo bike is purr-fect for carrying two traps to shuttle cats to the vet. Watch out for us whizzing by as your name will be painted on one side of the bike and our logo on the other. Your name will also be painted on our Wall of Love. and you will receive a pass offering you and a friend a 1-hour play session per week with our rescued kitties for 3 months (from the date you activate your pass).
