12 months ago, fundraising campaigns began to help Jer and his family secure they're forever home. A gofundme page was set up and numerous communities, schools, friends, families and neighbour's held fundraising events and made donations. In September 2020 the Spillane's moved into their home. This is a house that was truly built with love. Many people donated their time, their skills and even materials to help in building the house. It was a wonderful achievement and a testament to how well respected and thought of the Spillane family are in the locality.
We had many other plans to help Jer and his family, however, because of the Coronavirus our campaign was cut short. Now 12 months on there have been many changes in Jer’s condition. Most noticeably Jer now uses an electric wheelchair, generously provided by the IMNDA.
As this disease changes so do the needs of Jer and Jackie. Their family car cannot cater to his electric wheelchair. Jer has many medical appointments that he needs to attend and to do so he requires a wheelchair accessible car.
We hope to raise funds for the Spillane's to put towards their much-needed wheelchair accessible car and also to support the great work of IMNDA. This February IMNDA is running a sponsored silence campaign #Voice4MND. This is to highlight what it would be like to lose your voice through Motor Neurone Disease.
All we ask is that you share our page, make a donation (however big or small) and stay silent for 30 minutes on the 28th of February at 5 pm. If you would like to upload a photo of you and your family doing your silence we would appreciate it. You can print the Voice4MND slogan as seen on our page if you wish to hold with pride in your photo.
