Kilmessan Camogie Club have won lots of titles over the years at county, provincial and even national level but this is our biggest challenge yet – TO TAKE ON THE WORLD!!!!!
Over the past 12 months both Kilmessan camogie and Meath Women’s Refuge have been unable to host traditional means of fundraising for our respective organisations which is why we at Kilmessan Camogie have decided in 2021 to take on the challenge of travelling virtually around the world, a 40,000km circumference in 18 days.
Last year despite the global pandemic Kilmessan Camogie were able to field 3 adult teams along with a thriving juvenile section catering for girls aged 4 to 18 yrs. – and the club still incurred all our usual running costs which will be the same in 2021.
This around the world challenge will be a fundraiser for Kilmessan Camogie to help to contribute to these running costs and continue to fund all our members to compete across all levels. We are also donating 10% of the total raised to the Meath Women's refuge based in Navan, Co. Meath.
This refuge is a fantastic charity who support not only vulnerable women, but their children and families in times of need - never more evident than in the past 12 months where domestic abuse increased by 50% during COVID so we wanted to show them support and appreciation for their continued great work.
Our challenge launches on St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) and continues through to Easter Sunday (April 5th) finishing with a 24 hour run/walkathon from our Adult players in the club.
How you can get involved:
-Donate: All our participants will be aiming to raise sponsorship for the kilometres they build up daily for the 18 days.
- Move: While the aim is to raise needed funds, we are also encouraging the local and wider community to help us bank kilometres to reach the goal of 40,000km (the distance around the world), by walking/running/cycling/swimming, basically any form of exercise you can muster up we will take. Let’s start releasing all those good endorphins!!
- Share: Share this link to your friends, family, work colleagues, everyone, across the world! The more people who see this the more we can achieve.
- If you are helping us build up kilometres be sure to post your updates online tagging our social pages Kilmessan Camogie’ on Facebook, @kilmessancc on Twitter or @Kilmessancamogieclub on Instagram.
If you prefer you can direct message a member of our committee to ensure that your kilometres are included in our expedition!
We are very grateful to everyone who takes part and to everyone who donates.
We ask all those that are participating in this event by building up kilometres to do so in accordance with the current COVID-19 regulations. Please remain in your bubble or if meeting someone else please maintain a social distance throughout.
